I heart my body 2012...

Our relationship with our body is always going to be confusing.. the magazines and TV will always make sure of that but loving your body is so much more than the literal shape.

Loving your body should be about what it can do, what it has done and what you can teach it to do. The sooner you find those things the sooner you will find your inner strength to love your body through every stage in its life.

I can't tell you how much I regret totally pigging out with my first pregnancy.. it has left my tummy a tad stretched but you know what I have got my fitness back and I really couldn't care. I am slim (I work hard to be so) and in the grand scheme of things I don't really give a toss that it is a little creased. I have my kids, my body allowed me that and that works for me.

What do I love about my body?
I love that those shoulders belong to my Dad.
I love that their definition comes from running to far off places.
I love that my belly once held both of my babies.
I love that my legs are strong and that have carried me through 3 Ironmans
I love my tattoos as each one is for someone I love

most of all I love my scar on my back..
it is massive, it can't be covered but it never stopped me from being a successful model in an industry that is all about perfection.
it has ensured I have a husband who loves me for me because I wouldn't choose to sleep next to it each night unless I loved the person it bestowed.
it caused me much taunting as a kid but that made me a toughy

So you see I love my body, the good bits and the bad. It is mine. I own it. I make it what it is and I am responsible for how it will look after me as I age.

    1. Thanks Amelia.. I am planning one more tattoo for my kids the I am done..

My contentment has only come of late as I realised there are far more important and less selfish things to worry about..

    2. You are so right. And I'm slowly getting there.

I've got two more tattoos planned. One for my kids. And one for me.

They are a little addictive too! xx

My running gives me so much more than toned arms and I could so often just not bother but the endorphins are addictive.. the feeling AFTER is what keeps me going x

    1. I know hun but as long as you keep trying to get there you are doing the best thing you can for you and your body.

To fail to try is to fail to succeed. I'm always up for a power walk after drop of if you fancy distraction whilst exercising? x

  6. Great post and. You know you are right. If you work really hard at getting and keeping your body this way you should be proud. I have to say I am not at my best body yet with an 8 month old this wont take long but I am proud that I considered my diet with this pregnancy and was able to naturally get back to "close" to me quickly. Thank you for highlighting what we all forget that our body's can be perfect with each imperfection.

I love the way you said your shoulders are your dad's...I had never thought about parts of my body coming from my parents but it is so true that I can see parts of my mom and dad in me...so nice to think about it that way!

  14. it is great that you have such a holistic view of your body. All too often we focus on the external and the insecurities fostered and preyed on by magazines. You're photos reflect a beautiful woman.
