Q&A with our Giveaway

When did you start your business and how did it come about?

My Friend Matilda opened its doors (its online doors!) in May 2010 so thats just over two years ago. It has gone so fast! A long story short, we were told we could not have children...so you can imagine how surprised we were when a routine blood test followed by an ultrasound the following day showed that we were in fact 5 months pregnant!!! After the shock wore off we realised that our savings were non existent and in order to stay home with our baby I would need to find a way to help pay some of the smaller bills and that is where My Friend Matilda began. Initially I wanted to cover the cost of our petrol each week but it has grown and grown from there!

Why did you choose your business name?

The business is actually named after our fluffy Cavoodle, Matilda. We thought it sounded better than My Friend Kayden (my first born and no offense to him!). I liked the fact that people also associate Matilda with Australia.

What have you most enjoyed  in your career so far?

Definitely the fact that I am now at a stage in the business that I can step back a bit and let my employees shine while I enjoy raising my family I  also love when proud customers send in photos of our wall decals up on real walls.

Have you had any major highlights, personal or business in the last few years?

Yes a couple stand out...in no particular order. My Kids - Our miracle boys - Kayden who is about to now turn 3 and our other miracle man Max who is 6 months old. We are just ending six months of hell with Max and his reflux as well as a dairy intolerance...anyone who has had babies with these things will understand! So that is a definite highlight!  I also married my best friend and soul mate two years ago!
Career wise the highlights would be a full page article dedicated to My Friend Matilda in The West Australian and also that we now have My Friend Matilda as a wholesale range in some of Australia's leading websites. Oooh and employing my first staff member was a real highlight too.

What inspires or motivates you?

At the start of My Friend Matilda my motivation was money. Not that I was hungry for it...but we needed it. There is nothing more motivating that needing to provide for your family. These days my motivation would be all things inspiring and pretty! This also applies to something that I currently love...Pinterest.

..and lastly tell me one things about yourself that you love but has nothing to do with business..   I could spend days drooling and "pinning" gorgeous and inspiring things. I'm a Pinterest addict that's for sure...one rainy day I will put all my "pins" to actual use.
