Q&A with our Giveaway

When did you start your business and how did it come about?

I started Lelbys while I was living in Jakarta, where I lived for 4 1/2 years when my hubby was based there for business. That was about 6 years ago, and Lelbys has now been up and running for 2 years.

Why did you choose your business name?

I chose Lelbys as a business name because my child hood nick name is Lel and my husband Jaimie calls me Lelby. He also calls me Smelly, but it doesn't quite have the same ring to it....

What have you most enjoyed in your career so far?

I really enjoy all aspects of my business - the designing and textile side, as well as the sales, marketing and publicity. What I don't enjoy though is doing paperwork! Luckily my Jaimie is in finance so he handles my tax - I couldn't bear to do it myself!!!

Have you had any major highlights, personal or business in the last few years?

I guess that the highlight of Lelbys is always securing new stores, both internationally and across Australia. Growing and expanding the brand. I was thrilled to secure an exclusive deal with a chain of gorgeous homeware stores across Hong Kong and Dubai last year - definitely one of my recent highlights.

Another highlight is of course my two children - Isabel (5 years) and Rory (4 years) who were both born while I was setting up the business in Indonesia. They really are the light of my life.

What inspires or motivates you?

Lelbys is one of my great passions - all those years of late night feeds and nappy changing at 2am when I dreamed of my own business, how to start it, grow it, what to design, where to have it made etc. Hours of midnight dreaming, that really did reach fruition after ALOT of hard work!

and lastly tell me one things about yourself that you love but has nothing to do with business..

One thing I love that has nothing to do with business? Terry's chocolate orange, lazy Sundays with the family and cooking - I love love love to cook (and eat!!) and drink Pinot Grigio!

  1. A shop called Smelly would be an interesting shop indeed! x

  2. great story - alway so inspiring to see mom's action the late night business fantasy! well done.

Leave me a love note why don't you.. it makes me feel oh so spesh ...
