For the love of eating : Pumpkin Pie

Today we are handing it over to the beautiful Robin from Robin Gage Designs.

Not only is she one talented and creative woman, she also makes a mean pumpkin pie!

I'll definitely be giving this one a go! ::

My children have discovered pumpkin pie. I have discovered that being 85% health food (not an official stat, just my opinion) it's the perfect dinner! It's like a spinach milkshake decanted into a MacDonald's cup... or something. The following is a recipe for a whinge free dinner.

Recipe found here.
1 cup brown sugar
1 tbl cornstarch
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1 1/2 cup pureed pumpkin
3 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cup evaporated milk
Pre heat oven to 425 degrees (210) Line pie plate with crust. Chill the crust in the fridge while you make the filling. Combine all the ingredients together using a beater. Pour the mixture into the pastry and bake for 40 minutes. You want the pie to be firm to the touch but not too brown.
I have baked just the filling in individual ramekins for the gluten free pie lovers in the family. They come out like little pumpkin pie souffle's! You will need to adjust the time though.
So do yourself a favour and make pie for dinner. While you're at it, get dessert done as well and put a scoop of ice cream on top. It will blow your kids minds.

Q&A with our Giveaway

How did your Business come about?
I've always had a love of interior design and after having my kids I found it difficult to find linen and d├ęcor for their rooms that I liked.  I decided to create my own range which offers great quality and is equally suited to a nursery or teenager's room.

Is there a story behind the name?
Kate Lauren is my eldest daughter. She'such a sweet, caring and selfless girl. I was wanting a very timeless, classic name for my business and I thought why not "Kate Lauren", it's
perfect! Some of my collections have been named after my other children so
they don't miss out either.

What do you get up to when you are not working?
Being a Mum chauffeur, taking the kids to soccer, tennis, playdates and parties. Friends tell me it
gets worse the older the kids get!

I know it is hard but can you name your favourite item in your collection?
I have always loved the soft muted tones of our Bella Grace collection. It's a timeless design and can be teamed with so many other colours for different looks.

Do you have a wishlist on DTLL? What are your top two at the mo?
My top two at the moment are My Carnivale Ivy Wedge shoes - whoever said blue and green must never be seen?? I love these shoes! The other one on my list is a print from Driftwood Interiors I already have a print of theirs, but I really wantthis one as well!

Pinterest Picks : Let's get married... again

I've been married for over 2 years now.  I was married just before Pinterest came along.  And let me just say, that as much as I loved our wedding day and I wouldn't change it for the world, now thanks to Pinterest, I would happily do it all over again with a few additions (the groom most definitely stays the same though!).  Maybe a 10 year vow renewal is in order!

Stills : A weekly Collection

: do you see me ? thats my Mum and Dad at around 25.. I have always blamed my Dad for my jet black hair but now I see I had no hope!

: you would probably think it odd that my husbands anniversary from myself would be home decor items of such a pretty nature and that he would be over the moon with them but you see, I married well, found myself a keeper

: we have no need for alarm clocks in our house, the small people climbing in and snuggling at 6.45 each morning tends to make you stir from a slumber so when we woke at 7.15 on Friday we knew something was up.. camping was up, duvets, baskets, chairs and teddies were up. I even left it all up until bed as it made me smile so

: obi is the oldest dog with the puppiest tendencies, during the day he goes from cuddles to snores over a 10 second window in 20 minute rotations but give him a ball and he has the agility of a 1 year old and  the look of the naughtiest youngster.. oh how I love him so..

: how is it a week or so from winter when I head out for a run in a long sleeve and have to strip to a crop top half way and grab this picture?

: hendricks, hendricks oh where art thou hendricks.. totally addicted

For the love of eating : Sultana Cake

This recipe is a good one.  We've been using it in my family for years.  It's great for kids, is stays moist for days, has no added sugar and freezes well.  Win!

It requires:
2 cups cold strong black tea (I used three tea bags)
2 cups sultanas (we probably used slightly more, as we are big tana fans)
2 cups wholemeal self-raising flour
2 eggs
Easy, huh!

Mix tea and sultanas and allow to soak for 2-3 hours (you could soak overnight if you wished).  I kept the tea bags in the soaking mixture during this time.

Add beaten egg and flour.

Pour into a greased and lined loaf tin.  Bake at 200C for 45 minutes.

Serve with a scraping of cream cheese (or ricotta) and a nice cup of tea or milk.

The above is the original recipe, but today I also had two very ripe bananas I needed to use so I mashed them up and put them in at the same time as the flour and eggs.

The recipe also makes a fairly large loaf.  You could easily half the quantities for a smaller loaf.

And as you can see from the little hands, it's a great one for the little ones to help with.

We'd love to hear what you think!

Seller in the Spotlight : Make Me Iconic

Every couple of weeks we will put one of our gorgeous sellers in the spotlight and share with you a little about them and their business.

Today we're chatting with the owner of Make Me Iconic - Natasha Skunca.

How did you start your business?
It all started with an idea...well two actually. We returned home to Melbourne at the end of 2008 after an extended (10 year!) stay in Europe. Immediately we fell in love with the city again. How could you not? The city has so much to offer that is unique, stylish and contemporary we wanted something in our home that brought those elements to life. Sadly, there was nothing to be found. We had great souvenirs from London, but nothing to represent Melbourne – the city we grew up in and once again call home. We invested a few thousand dollars and made a few products and then just started selling them. I started simply knocking on doors of my favourite  shops. I have been extremely lucky and I feel humbled by our success.
What inspires you?
Basically the city of Melbourne keeps me inspired! It feels so good to be home again after 10 years away and it’s like discovering a whole new city all over again. I love all the quirky shops and the hidden alleyways. When I get time I love just walking around the city and taking photos. I also keep a scrap book of idea from things I have seen in magazines or photos.
What is your favorite piece in your collection?
I am really loving the HELLO POSSUM mini cushion at the moment with a flash of hot pink. I just had a girl so my entire life has just turned many shades of pink. I am working on some new products that will soon turn into my favorites once they get released.
What are 5 words you would use to describe Down That Little Lane?
OMG! (is that one word or three?)
If you could invite 5 people to a dinner party (dead or alive) who would they be?
It would have to be Tom Cruse because I am old school and still fancy him from his young days in Top Gun and I want to know all about his breakup with Katie Holmes. I would have to bring my husband too because I am really lucky and he loves to cook so basically he would cook all the food. My best friend from London too because she loves Tom Cruise too and I just want to see her and London is so far away now. PINK because she would be so feisty and it would just make me laugh plus we are going to her concert in August. And then some more eye candy such as Ewan McGregor and I want to hear about the new Star Wars movies (yes I am a fan of Star Wars and thank goodness the kids love Star Wars too!)

Make Me Iconic is a brand new company that is taking an entirely new tack on designer home wares and premium souvenirs. They produce high quality products that people enjoy, connect with and want to talk about.  Their goal is to bring the unsung icons of the city to life and into people’s homes.
Then at the same time their products aim to enlighten consumers by providing facts about the icons of the city and what makes them so special and unique.
Working with young, local designers, Make Me Iconic products make fresh things familiar and familiar things fresh.
You can see their full and fabulous range here.
