Seller in the Spotlight : The Inspired Paddock

Every few weeks we will put one of our gorgeous sellers in the spotlight and share with you a little about them and their business.

Meet Fiona Shortis from The Inspired Paddock.

How did you start your business?

The Inspired Paddock came to life last year after a trip to my sister's farm.  With a ute load of rusted barbed wire and old timber palings from the stables - back to Sydney I went full of ideas.  Initially I was making wire pieces and board games for myself, then friends wanted them, then I did some local markets and school fairs and before I knew it I had a website and a shopfront on DTLL.
Luckily for me, my husband has more power tools, work benches, saws and nail guns than he knows what to do with, it seemed a waste for me not to be using them too!
I do love working "on the tools", but I'm equally as happy on the sewing machine or with a needle and thread in hand, and from this has come my newest addition into the paddock, a range of Wall Banners, some on linen, but most are wool felt - pitched at the kids and "tweens" of this world!

What inspires you?
I grew up on a dairy farm in East Gippsland so I have a deep love for the country. I find a lot of inspiration from the beautiful natural things that surround us. I am forever finding old bits and pieces and wondering what I can turn them into! I adore spending time back in the country as this is where the real treasures lie and where I feel truly at home.

What is your favourite piece in your collection?
My favourite piece in The Inspired Paddock range is easily the Chess board......shame I don't even know how to play!!!!

Where would your dream holiday be?
My Dream holiday would be golfing, drinking and laughing my way around Ireland with my husband and my mad fun golfing mates!

Do you have a favourite book?
Favourite Book - clearly don't know me well to ask that question....books, what are they?? Next to my bed is a pile of home mags and a needle and thread!

If you could invite 5 people (dead or alive) to dinner, who would they be and why?
My husband (of course), Miranda Kerr (for him), Adam Scott (love golf and he is easy on the eye too!), Ricky Martin (he can sing and dance all night) and Hamish/Andy (I'm sure they count as 1 person) for entertainment.

The Inspired Paddock brings to you a unique collection of traditional board games and decorative barbed wire pieces to adorn your home, indoors and out. All hand crafted and created in Bayview on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Fiona's pieces are all made with rustic simplicity, each piece taking on a life of it's own due to the natural weathering of the timbers and barbed wires.
Fresh into the paddock is a collection of wall banners. Available for order now are the customised "Postcode Deer Banners". These are hand stitched wool felt on Vintage French mangle cloth, a stunning addition to any space!
There is also a fun range of wool felt banners which look fantastic in the kids bedrooms or baby's nursery.
"I hope you find some "inspiration" for your home here in my paddock, happy grazing!" says Fiona.
