I don't do grudges...

I used to when I was at school but that is just it.. they are childish and immature, more than that they are a waste of energy. I can't be bothered to use up valuable time being negative and focused on crappy behaviour by another person when I could spend it being happy and thinking nice thoughts (how hippy of me hey?!)

I come across some very average attitudes in business (personal too of old but not so much these days as I have a pretty gorgeous tribe). There are often those you go out of your way to help only to get no thanks, a complaint despite the effort or worst of all have them completely disregard your time and do something that shows they didn't even value the relationship you had created with them.

It used to leave me grumpy and sad for quite a while, it used to have me never wanting to help others for fear of a repeat and sometimes I even wanted to scream and shout but I didn't and I don't

Their attitude is the crap one and they are the ones loosing out. I go right along and ignore it these days knowing I did everything I could and can sleep at night knowing I tried.

I don't bear a grudge.. I just know that person is well and truly due absolutely no good karma from me and that I will move on and spread my love elsewhere.

I am a girl with a lotta love and I get lots of chances to spread it far and wide in business so more fool them I say. Life is too short to allow crapness to consume it. Onwards and Upwards I say :)

Do you bear grudges? Some of my mates do as they say they just cant see past it.. I get it, I do. I just don't do it anymore.

I don't have a sister, I have a totally amazing brother but for sisters I have to look to my girlfriends.

I am lucky enough to be able to say I have a few of them that I know would alway be there for me, ones that I would in turn drop everything for and the ones that know me as well as I know them.

My mother is a breast cancer survivor so not only is the cause very close to my heart but the strength and courage of those who go through it inspires me every day.

This week one of 'my' sisters Kate from Uberkate was sent a picture by Sandra, a breast cancer survivor showing her before and after picture wearing her Ubercircles. Kate said 'Sandra's beautiful smile epitomises hope for anyone facing their own battle or who is helping a loved one through theirs'

Kate had 'her' sisterhood choose words that were inspired by Sandra to create designs from for a special Pop Up store raising money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

I chose 'Believe' from the range and am wearing it with pride to show my support of all those amazing women battling his terrible illness just like my amazing mother did.

Geometric Goodies

The world has gone a cray cray for hard lines and geometric patterns. Am I complaining ? No way. I love phases. You can take them or leave them and just because a magazine says they are over it does not mean you need to kick them to the curb. If you have enjoyed them and they suit your style keep on keeping :)

For this post I was presented with such a plethora of choices I decided I had to refine the criteria and have chosen just one genre.. homewares... prints and canvasses to make your heart sing, lights to love and designs of desire. If you are grumpy I missed out on a different genre just yell and I will get on it for you for my next post.

What is your favourite trend at the moment?  I am also still loving neon but think it will only last another season or so..

The Business of Blogging..

Blogging is a funny old game.. most people start for personal reasons and then somewhere along the lines they realise that money can be made, they see others doing just that and figure it can't be that hard..

I love the blogging community and DTLL are firm supporters of them. We even have our own DTLL Blogger Family (you will have seen them over the last year or will see them in the near future in our newsletters).

The thing about turning it into an income earner is that it becomes a business and with a business comes work, deadlines, clients, relationships, ethics and etiquette and that is where I am constantly amazed at how many bloggers just don't take it seriously.

It is not easy to find readers and retain them but once you have and you find a market for which a client will pay you to promote their brand too there are expectations to be met.

You need to write well and know who your client is..
You need to meet a deadline for certain promos..
You need to ensure that single post gets maximum exposure..
You need to understand social media and know your true value across those platforms
and last but most important of all you need to ensure you don't let them down and drop the ball..

I am not sure why I am writing this post.. I suppose it is because I have been exposed to both.

To work with a blogger that shows you that they get your brand and is attentive to details to work your profile to its best advantage is just blissful and I send them referrals all the time.

To have bloggers approach you to work together that have no idea of their stats. That do not know reach in comparison to others and to then support them out of the goodness of your heart only to have them 'drop the ball'. It is such a let down and really destroys that fabulous on line community feel.

I guess I am just saying if you are going to do it, make sure it is what you really want and know that it is a job, a new job that yes you can do from home but a time consuming one never the less. One that may well cost you money at first to get going properly and one that you need to well and truly hop on the karma train for.

You can't expect others to support you unless you support them..

Do you blog ? Do you aim to make money from it or is it just for you?

It was all too much..

I wanted to write this last week but I wasn't able to as it felt too raw.. The weekend before last we lost our second baby Obi (yes he was a dog not a human). We lost Tyler about 3 years before  and it hurt but somehow having Obi to come home too meant we just poured all our left over love back into him.

With me working from home you can imagine my bond with the little man. He was my constant companion, who lay at my feet under my desk everyday and was kind enough to let any child that fancied pull his ears and prod his nose without ever raising a growl.

Tyler passed in the middle of the night with me by his side at a late night local vet but Obi we had to organise. It meant a new situation with the children and a 6 and 5 year old rather than 2 and 3 as they were last time.

I didn't lie to them, I would hate to be lied too, so we chose to be honest. Kitty was distraught and so we all sat and had a cry and then declared it was time to be happy for Obi and make him feel good.

Harrington chose a toy to give to him to take to Obi and Kitty drew a picture of them both together chasing rabbits.

The next few weeks will be lonely. We know we will have another dog as we feel they make a little family quite complete but for now we will remember our little guy and his bigger brother with the fond memories they have created for us over the last 13 years and just focus on how lucky we were to have had them.

Have you lost a pet? Did you get another one after? How long did you wait?

Asher's Nursery

So this week we have Ashers Nursery created by her Mum Skye

Skye had a custom garland made to match her custom rug
Skye said 'As a Project Manager, friends often tease my meticulous organisation.  At 31 weeks pregnant, I had finalised selections for either boy or girl & after my husband & I hosted our much-anticipated gender reveal (where I was genuinely shocked to discover we were having a girl I was ready to place orders for wallpaper, artwork, the rug etc. & confess to doing so at 3am after the gender reveal (I couldn't sleep after all the excitement!)

I loved that Asher's room allowed me to be creative & girly, especially in a house full of boys! It's not often you have the opportunity to create a beautiful space from scratch - so it was as much for me as it was for Asher! I do hope as she grows, her room plays a part in making beautiful memories & she can feel the love & thought that went into creating her space

DTLL does custom colour rugs to suit ANY decor

My aim was to select décor with longevity; therefore, where possible, I sidestepped conventional baby shops.

Aside from the need for a cot conversion kit, I believe the items chosen can work for years to come; however I obsessively follow design blogs for children's spaces, so I'm sure as Asher grows & her needs & personal tastes evolve we'll enjoy continuing to make additions to the space.

Do cot sheets come much cuter?

Particular things I love about the room:
Having a Gallery Hanging System is fantastic; I can display artworks without drilling hooks into the beautiful wallpaper
The mobile my Mum & I made; lovingly punching & sewing hundreds of circles together to complement the wallpaper whilst creating something visually stimulating& sewing hundreds of circles together to complement the wallpaper whilst creating something visually stimulating.
Bits & pieces we gathered during our Buenos Aires babymoon – a Mini Cooper (our surname is Cooper), miniature Spanish children's books from 1907, & a Wind in the Willows tin suitcase - all from the Feria de San Pedro Telmo vintage markets.

We adore our Heidi Ho Elephant

A cute as anything Fairy Door

Jar it up with some Quinoa and Kale....

I love this idea.. and now I am on a detox it appeals oh so much more.. Guy from Bondi Harvest serves it up all special like..... as always :)

You a salad fan? What is your favourite?

Growing Up

A few of my favourite bloggers have spoken recently about the challenges we all have have in growing up, the harsh comparisons we all put ourselves through and it got me thinking..

I said to Bron 'I feel like I have aged a thousand years in the past few'. Nothing negative as all in a good way and it is thanks to the people I surround myself with.

I have grown up by realising it is much more pleasurable to be
the nice girl,
the giving girl
and the happy girl.

At school I was part of the cool crowd, we had a mean side and I think I was a little selfish and I am sure I wasn't really happy.. now I am :)

When people behave like a dick and are aggressive in any way I kill them with kindness, it works every time.

People try and bring me down I find a way around it and come out the other side stronger and better.

I have no idea if it is the business world, my age or being a Mum that has shifted my perspective on what is important in life but I do know it has taken a conscious effort to maintain it and have it become a way of life.

It is a conscious effort that has me feeling like a new person and I try and offload it onto everyone and anyone I care about.

Have you aged well mentally? What do you put it down too? or are you still trying

Some of the best days are nothing special..

The other day I hosted Kitty's Year One Mums at my place for a straight after drop off catch up.. 9.30 they arrived and all brought naughty bits to munch on whilst I served tea and coffee and we all sat around my big table out back. A couple of them I knew from my Kindy Class and I quickly got to know the others.

So a couple of hours passed easily (I even managed to not check emails) and most of them left to go on with their day..

my two I had known from the previous year?
well they hung out a little longer..
i grabbed my laptop and designed a newsletter whilst..
we chatted,
we gossiped,
compared our kids,
reassured each other,
ate melted tim tams,
talked cleaners,
and just hung..
we hung until school pick up..

You see it was nothing special, nothing special at all but it WAS the best day.. a thoroughly enjoyable day.

For me it was a reminder to be grateful for fab people in my life. Have you had a day you loved that wasn't even up to much?

You know when it is just not meant to be?

I am quite happy to admit I love a clean house and may or may not be a little obsessed about it ALWAYS looking presentable. I potter and clean and pack away whenever I am not working so given that I work, um, lets say 12 hrs a day to be conservative, you would imagine I have a cleaner.

Negatory.. haven't had a cleaner since a two month window when I had one when Harrington was born and Kitty was still only 1. You see I have never been one to pay someone to do something I can do myself AND especially if I know I am capable of doing it just as well if not better.

Well as I grow older, uglier and wiser I am learning that whilst I am capable of lots of things I do not have the time to do them all and now that we have both kids at school the previous budget for pre school fees is something I could steal a little from to afford a helping hand with some of the non business related activities in my life.

Time to get a cleaner? Damn sure it is.

So I finally opened myself up to the idea
put it out there
found someone fab
waited for them to come quote
hired them as such
had them booked for the next week
and bloody well got an email saying she was pulling out!

GRRRRRRRR.. So guess what? I can't be arsed going through the whole process again and I will just keep cleaning myself!

Bondi Harvest : Apple Custard Cake

Old school or New School ?

I don't know if it makes me new school or just rude but I just don't love phone calls, I prefer email.. It is not that I don't like talking to people, because I do, I just prefer face to face.

If you ever want to get hold of me to get an answer on anything email is the fastest method, anyone who knows me will tell you I am lightning on my responses.

It comes from my need to complete and delete so if an email comes in and I can action it immediately I do as then I can also delete it and lighten my inbox. I am the same on to do lists for the day. I do the things I can do fastest first so my list is reduced at the fastest speed.

Phone calls mess with that (unless they are part of the completion of an email or task) phone calls can come from unknowns and worse even is someone I do know as we can end up talking for ages and tangenting off all over the place.

So I would call myself new school as I prefer email over the old fashioned for of communication in a phonecall... am I odd? I think about it everytime the phone rings and I am mid email and curse the phone.

Tell me I am not alone? Are you old school or new school?
